TIRUPATI, MARCH 22. Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) has completed 1,127 surgeries so far under its `Pranadanam' scheme, meant for the poor. SVIMS authorities on Monday issued a press release following allegations of financial mismanagement in recent times, in which the SVIMS medical superintendent, G. Sreenath, claimed that patients who had undergone surgery expressed satisfaction with the treatment and post-operative care provided. The mortality rate was just 3 per cent compared to 5 per cent in developed countries. Only one patient had died in the last three months, he said. A free `valve check up clinic' would be held on the first Saturday of every month as part of the post-operative care of patients who had undergone cardiac surgery under the scheme.
