VIJAYAWADA, MARCH 22. Shops and business establishments remained closed on Monday at Machilipatnam town in response to the bandh call given by various political parties, following the murderous attack on a local industrialist and TDP leader, K. Jaganatham alias Bullaiah. Mr. Bullaih was inflicted with multiple stab injuries by three persons at a farmhouse in the town on Saturday night. Protesting against the incident, the TDP, Congress, CPI and CPI(M) activists took out a silent rally on Sunday demanding police to take action against the culprits. The organisations also called for a bandh on Monday over the issue. While shops and business establishments mostly remained closed, schools and other educational institutions functioned as usual. The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bunder division, J. Kanaka Rao, told The Hindu that the police had picked up two suspects for questioning in connection with the attack. Mr. Rao said that efforts were on to nab one G. Vasudev Rao, a Telugu Yuvatha leader from Avanigadda, who was charged by Mr Bullaiah with the attack.
