EC's `no' to `laddoo yatra'
LUCKNOW,
MARCH 22.
The Election Commission today rejected a plea by a former corporator of Lucknow to take a 11-tonne ``laddoo'' to Ayodhya on March 30 on the occasion of Ram Navmi.
The `laddoo' was to be offered at the Hanumangarhi temple for a long life and good health of the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The State Chief Electoral Officer, Vijay Sharma, said the proposal of Nipendra Pandey to take the `laddoo' by road from Lucknow to Faizabad amounted to violation of the model code of conduct.
The applicant had claimed that the programme was neither political, nor a propaganda of any candidate, but it had been rejected after considering Rule-3 of the model code of conduct book, Mr. Sharma said. UNI
