LDF election office opened

By Our Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE, MARCH 22. The LDF convener, Paloli Mohammedkutty, today reminded the front's campaign managers that they held the key to the LDF's victory from the Kozhikode Lok Sabha seat.

``There is strong public resentment against the economic policies pursued by the Governments of the BJP and the Congress. It is your responsibility to convert it into votes in favour of our candidate (M. P. Veerendra Kumar), Mr. Paloli Mohammedkutty said after inaugurating the LDF election office, near the Regional Science Centre and Planetarium, on Cherooty Nagar, here. The LDF convener told LDF supporters present at the function that this election was quite different from past parliamentary polls in Kozhikode. On its outcome would depend the future of the nation which, he believed, would be bleak if BJP and its allies mustered two-thirds majority as they had claimed they would.

Speaking at the programme, Mr.Veerendra Kumar said he would like to be projected as the symbol of all that LDF stood for - the war against colonisation by imperialist powers and the poverty spawned by the policies of globalisation pursued by the Central and State Governments. These would be the central issues in his election campaign.

Success in the election would depend on the success of LDF campaign managers' efforts to convince the voters about the failure of the Government to tackle their problems. The Government's failure to provide relief to Wayanad farmers and the bleak industrial scenario in Kozhikode had generated considerable resentment.

``People know the purpose of Ministers' visits to Delhi is not to solve their problems but to settle petty party disputes,'' he said.

``If we work hard we can pull off a victory. But we do have to work very hard,'' the LDF candidates remarked.

C. P. Balan Vaidyar, president, election committee, the Mayor, Thottathil Ravindran, the LDF leaders, M. K. Premnath, T. V. Balan, K. P. Rajan, M. Alikoya and N. V. A. Majid also spoke. MLAs, Neelalohithadasan Nadar and C. K. Nanu were among those who attended the meeting.
