Sri Lankan vessel develops snag

By Our Staff Reporter

MADURAI, MARCH 22. A Sri Lankan passenger vessel developed a technical snag mid-sea and drifted to Indian waters on Sunday night.

According to police, the vessel, `Anandarani', was on a trial sail from Negombo to Trincomalee when its engines failed. With a four-member crew on board, the vessel drifted towards Dhanushkodi during the wee hours from where the Captain, Markanda Deivendran, sent an SOS to the Coast Guard through local fishermen.

The Customs and Coast Guard officials have reached the spot for rescue operations.
