BJP leaders seek Karimnagar seat

By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR, MARCH 22. The Karimnagar, Manakondur and Thimmapur mandal units of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have asked the party high command to allocate the Karimnagar Assembly constituency ticket to the BJP district president, P. Sugunakar Rao.

In a press note issued here on Monday, the mandal presidents - L. Ashok Rao (Manakondur), T. Srinivas Goud (Karimnagar rural), E. Murahari Reddy (Thimmapur), Ravinder Singh (Karimnagar town) -- and others asked the BJP high command to allocate the party ticket to Mr. Sugunakar Rao, who had striving hard for the progress of the party in the district.

They argued that the BJP had secured more votes in the Parliament election from the Karimnagar Assembly segment than the TDP candidate.

They leaders said the BJP also had strong cadre support in the town to ensure the success of Mr. Sugunakar Rao.

BJP women leader

threatens to resign

The BJP district vice-president and former ZPTC member, Pudari Aruna, has threatened to resign from the BJP if she was denied the party ticket from Metpally Assembly constituency.

Ms. Aruna told The Hindu over phone that she would resign if denied the party ticket. She said the party had also denied her the ZPTC ticket during the local body elections, from Metpally. Alleging that the party had neglected women in the allocation of ticket in the elections, Ms. Aruna said she had been associated with the BJP since the last 20 years and urged the party to implement the 33 per cent quota for women in the allocation of tickets.

She stated that the Metpally segment had more women voters and asked the party to nominate a woman candidate.
