PONDICHERRY, MARCH 22. As a highlight of the World Forest Day celebrations, the volunteers of the Bharat Ratna MGR Podhunala Samooga Peravai performed special poojas to the trees on the premises of Vellanthangi Iyyanar koil near the municipal terminal here on Sunday. The Secretary of the organisation, D. Siva, led the team to perform the rituals. Among those who spoke on the occasion included school teachers and representatives of various organisations. The speakers pointed out that the temples had trees of medicinal value .The Iyyanar temple itself had a very old neem tree. The participants pledged to plant a tree each for the preservation of the environment.
