NAGERCOIL, MARCH 22. Villagers of the Mandaikadu Puthur fishing village near here, led by the Parish Priest, Arul Raj, picketed the Mandaikadu Puthur road today, demanding that the authorities initiate immediate measures to provide drinking water to the villagers. They also urged the officials to maintain the streetlights well in the area. As they remained unrelenting, the Revenue Divisional Officer of Padmanabhapuram, S. Sivan, along with the officials, held negotiations with them. He assured the villagers to provide water through the AVM Canal and ensure they obtained an adequate quantum of potable water. He said he would look into other civic issues. The villagers dispersed after the assurance.
