Fund allocation for developmental works

NAGERCOIL, MARCH 22. A total of Rs.15.82 lakhs has been allocated for taking up various developmental works in the Pinekulam village panchayat of the Muncherai panchyat union in Kanyakumari district recently and all works are under various stages of progress.

The works include the establishment of noon meal centres each at Parakkany and Panankalaimukku for Rs.one lakh and Rs.1.4 lakhs respectively, constructing a library at Kakkaravilai at a cost of Rs.2 lakhs, constructing an overhead water tank at Manakkalai on an outlay of Rs.4.5 lakhs and building a house at Thengapatnam under the Indira Awass Yojana for Rs.32, 000.

In addition, the administration took up maintenance work and construction of a kitchen shed at the noon meal centre at Vettamangalam for Rs.30,000, maintenance work between the Amsi Vettamangalam and Oottukuzhy roads for Rs.4.3 lakhs, construction of a reading room at Oottukuzhy at a cost of Rs.80,000 and establishment of a drainage and repair of the sluice at Melakulam for Rs.65,000.

The Collector, Rajesh Lakhoni, who undertook a surprise inspection of the works on Sunday, directed officials to complete the works at the earliest.

At Manakkalai, he found that the OHT was constructed and the infiltration wells were sunk.

He assured to provide funds under the drought relief scheme to lay pipelines and facilitate the construction of a pump room, soon.
