BIDAR, MARCH 22. Seven persons, including an eight-year-old girl, were killed and three injured when an autorickshaw rammed a lorry on the Mumbai-Hyderabad National Highway near Tadol village in Basavkalyan taluk, while three persons died and an equal number were injured in a road accident near Gadag on Sunday night. The names of the victims of the accident near Tadol village were given as Sudhakar Chanda (35), Mansoor Ismail Saab (36), Hema (35), a lecturer, and her husband, Ratnakar Kulkarni (40), Abdul Majeed (20), all from Rajeshwar village, and Anjum Kareem (8) and Jagannath Savare (26), both of Maharashtra. It is suspected that Jagannath was driving the autorickshaw when the accident occurred. The injured are Razia Begum of Nalegaon, Tajuddin of Kasar Sirsi in Maharashtra and a two-and-a-half-year-old child, Sonu, the police said. The accident occurred at about 10 p.m. on a bridge under repair when the lorry, on its way from Hyderabad to Mumbai, blocked the way. The autorickshaw was thrown off at least 40 feet away from the road killing its passengers on the spot. The lorry driver is said to have fled the scene.
