PERAMBALUR, MARCH 22. Higher education should be made accessible to all sections of the society by enrolling more number of students to achieve an overall development of the country, the Vice-Chairman of the University Grants Commission, V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, said. Delivering the convocation address at the Thanthai Hans Roever College here today, he said higher education had become a far cry for the suppressed communities, physically disabled persons and women, owing to socio-economic factors. Mr. Rajasekharan Pillai called upon colleges to take up special steps to enrol all aspiring students for higher education. "Nobody should be excluded in the enrolment drive for higher education", he said. Advocating the need for continuing education programme, he said the concept of education should integrate individual's potential for national prosperity, knowledge-based global economy and creativity. In the world of globalisation and technological revolution, the job-seekers should develop a flair for creativity. Education should be aimed at instilling right values, positive thinking and patriotic spirit in the mind of every student. Teachers should evolve innovative techniques in teaching. "Look at humanity as one universal society and strive hard to strengthen it", he added. The Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education, S. Muthukumaran, conferred degrees on 725 students. The principal, V.Ganesan, and the correspondent, K.Varadharaajen, were also present.
