GULBARGA, MARCH 22. With the failure of talks between the striking teaching staff and doctors of the Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College and the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society president, B.G. Jawali, and other managing council members, the former have decided to continue their strike till their demands are settled. The president of the Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College Teachers Association, S.M. Patil, told The Hindu here that Dr. Jawali and the secretary of the education society held talks with the representatives of the teachers association on Monday. On Sunday too, some managing council members, led by the Vice-President, Shashil G. Namoshi, held discussions with the teachers with a view to end the deadlock and persuade them to withdraw their strike. Dr. Patil said neither the education society president nor the members of the managing council were ready to commit themselves on when the demands would be met. We do not believe in oral assurances made by the president of the education society and members of the managing council as similar assurances given earlier to the teachers have not been implemented,'' he added. The postgraduate students of the college, who were managing the show at the Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital with the doctors boycotting their work, have also decided to join the strike in support of the teaching staff. The non-teaching staff will join the strike on Tuesday.
