Weather

Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 36.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24.9 degrees Celsius. Humidity which was 76 per cent in the morning dropped to 58 per cent in the evening.

Commodity prices

Following are the prices of essential commodities (in rupees per kg) in the local wholesale markets on Monday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: groundnut oil - Rs. 54, palmolein oil - Rs. 46.75, sunflower oil - Rs. 53, tamarind (flower variety) - Rs. 26 to 31, tamarind (karipulli variety) - Rs. 35 to 40, chillis - Rs. 22 to 27, rice (2716) - Rs. 11 to 11.50, rice (superfine) - Rs. 13 to 13.50, rice (samba masoori) - Rs. 13.50 to 14, black gram - Rs. 20.50, red gram - Rs 24.

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply from 7 am to 12 noon on Tuesday in the following areas under Moghulrajapuram section as the Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd has proposed to avail of a pre-arranged shutdown for pre-monsoon inspection works. The affected areas are: Vijayawada offset area, VMC quarters and water works, Pakeergudem, Seven Star Building area, Brundavan Colony and Greenland Hotel.

Loans distributed

Union Bank of India on Monday disbursed various loans like housing loans, vehicle loans and trade loans sanctioned by the bank's branches in Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts to eligible beneficiaries. The bank also distributed the life insurance and non-insurance products to its clientele on the occasion. A. Sudhakar, assistant general manager, Vijayawada, explained the initiatives taken by the bank in retail lending portfolio.

Water kiosk

The Ambedkar Dalita Jyoti Youth on Monday started a cool water kiosk at Chittinagar to cater to the needs of people during summer. The kiosk was inaugurated by the local Congress leader, Sheik Nanaji. The participants earlier garlanded the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
