ISLAMABAD, MARCH 22. The Pakistan Government is believed to have reversed its decision to honour the wife of defamed nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan with a civilian award on the occasion of Pakistan Day tomorrow. Known as father of nuclear bomb, Dr. Khan, who has confessed last month to having passed on nuclear technology to Iran, Libya and North Korea, has twice been conferred with the highest civilian award in the country. A proposal was mooted before the nuclear scandal surfaced to honour Ms. Khan. The Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, has, meanwhile, conferred the `Tamgha-i-Istaqlal' on all ranks of Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces "in recognition of the firm resolve, steadfastness and operational preparedness displayed by the Armed Forces during the stand-off with India from December 2001 to December 2002." An official statement said that this medal had been instituted to recognise the resolve, determination, high level of professionalism and utmost vigilance shown by the officers and men to guard the frontiers of the motherland.
