HYDERABAD, MARCH 22. Preparations are afoot to start the trial pumping of Krishna water from the Kodandapur water treatment plant on March 24. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Managing Director, M.G.Gopal, said water was drawn from the Srisailam Left Bank Canal into reservoirs and Kodandapur water treatment plant on Sunday. The next phase in the trial run, as a prelude to bringing Krishna water to the twin cities by March 31, is the stage-wise pumping from the Kodandapur water treatment plant to various reservoirs en route the city outskirts where the Krishna water will be linked to the existing distribution system. The AP Transmission Corporation has expedited the work on its sub-stations and power lines. The power connection was scheduled to be given by March 24 and pumping would begin the same day, he said. The stretch-wise trial pumping from Kodandapur to Nasarlapally, Nasarlapally to Godakondla and from there to Gunagal and Sahebnagar reservoirs was to ensure that all parameters required for pumping 45 mgd of water were in proper synchronisation. Water reaching the Sahebnagar and Gunagal reservoirs was the touchstone for the project and after that the flow was by gravity, he said. The pipelines were already tested in the factory and also at field level and the trial pumping would help flush clean and sterilise the pipelines and prepare them to take filtered water once the actual supply for consumption commenced on March 31. Meanwhile the Board had stepped up supply from the four reservoirs to the twin cities from 148 mgd to 150 mgd in view of increased demand in summer. The piped water supply would be augmented by 45 mgd of Krishna water in due course, he said.
