Three held for fraud

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, MARCH 22. Three men allegedly engaged in encashing fake money orders purportedly issued from a Ranchi post office in Jharkhand have been arrested by the Special Staff of the East Delhi police. Six such money orders have allegedly been recovered from their possession.

On March 16, the Special Staff received a tip-off that fake money orders apparently issued by the Kanke Post Office at Ranchi were being encashed in the Capital. Some of these money orders had been sent to the Krishna Nagar Head Post Office in East Delhi through ordinary post in the name of different payees living across the district.

Accordingly, a police team investigated the matter and zeroed in on two suspects, Sudhakant Jha and Hari Shankar Thakur, who were arrested while trying to encash six fake money orders at the Pandav Nagar Post Office.

During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to their involvement in the racket. They disclosed that they had come to the Capital in search of jobs. However, they were unable to get good salaries. In the meantime, they came in contact with Brij Kishore Jha and Shankar Nath Jha, who convinced them to receive and encash fake money orders against handsome payment as commission.

At Sudhakant's instance, the police arrested Brij Kishore. As it turned out, Brij Kishore and his uncle Shankar Nath were running the racket of fake money orders in different cities, Brij Kishore would lure people into helping him receive and encash the money orders, while Shankar Nath procured blank money order forms and filled them by using fake oblong stamp and the stamp of the post office concerned. A hunt has been launched for Shankar Nath.

Robbed of Rs. 10 lakhs

Two employees of a businessman were allegedly robbed of Rs. 10 lakhs by two men inside his office compound at Badarpur in South Delhi today.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. when Moti Ram, who works as a cashier for Prem Prakash Sharma, was returning in a Maruti Gypsy after collecting the sale proceeds of Mr. Sharma's petrol pump. According to Moti Ram, he had just entered the compound owned by Mr. Sharma when two men intercepted the vehicle, forcing the driver, Surat Lal, to apply the brakes. The office is located on Mathura Road at Badarpur.

The culprits, who had a country-made firearm with them, threatened Moti Ram and Surat Lal with dire consequences and snatched a bag containing the money from them. The culprits then fled on a motorcycle they had parked outside the compound.
