BPL Mobile services on passenger boats

KOCHI: BPL Mobile in association with Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation Ltd has installed mobile phones in passenger boats plying between various small islands in Kochi. The mobile phones will be maintained by the boat crew and will be used for communicating with various emergency service points like Fireforce, Navy, and Coast Guard. The phones would come in handy for the crew in the event of a break-down, rough weather or any passenger casualties. Mr Mohammed Saleem of BPL Mobile said the company had earlier provided cells in the passenger boats of KSRTC. It has also provided its services to various ambulance services, and hospitals.
