PATNA, MARCH 23. The Patna High Court today ordered criminal contempt of court proceedings against the Director and the Secretary of the Primary Education Department for "suppressing facts from the court" regarding recruitment of over 34,000 primary teachers. A Division Bench consisting of Chief Justice Ravi S. Dhavan and Justice Shashank Kumar Singh held the Director, Arun Kumar Singh, and the Secretary, Anil Kumar, guilty of "suppressing" facts on the matter and ordered criminal contempt of court proceedings against them. The Bench directed the Secretary, Law Department, to submit a detailed report within a week regarding the number of posts lying vacant in primary schools across Bihar and the number of trained teachers available. The Judges observed that the court had lost faith in the State Government which appeared little concerned about improving literacy rate.
