Hacker frenzy

By K. Srinivas Reddy

HYDERABAD, MARCH 24. The assassination of the Hamas leader, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, seems to have put hackers in attack mode, one group disapproving the killing and the other supporting the Israeli action. For the second consecutive day today, over a dozen websites have been defaced by hackers seeking to support or denounce the U.S. and Israel. Having defaced the homepages, they have posted their own messages there, some of them offensive.

A group named `Aikmel,' believed to be of Indonesian origin, has been posting messages on websites denouncing Israel and the U.S. Expressing similar views were others such as `Minang Crew' and `Mirror Crew.'

On the other side, Hackweiser and ir4dex put on websites anti-Palestine messages, supporting Israel. Meanwhile, a Russian group began targeting U.S. websites, claiming Russian women were the best in the business.
