Banks to disburse Rs. 1,164 crores

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 24. Banks in the district will disburse Rs. 1163.77 crores as loan in the next financial year (2004-05), according to a credit plan released by the District Collector, K.R. Muraleedharan, at a banking review meeting held here today.

Of this, Rs. 690 crores have been allocated for the service sector, Rs. 356 crores for the agriculture sector and Rs. 117 crores for the industrial sector. In the current financial year, till December, the banks in the district have received Rs. 9,076 crores as deposits, while Rs. 809 crores was disbursed as loans.

By March 31, the credit target is expected to reach Rs. 937 crores. The credit-deposit ration in the district is 56 per cent in the district, while in the State it is 46 per cent. The loans would be disbursed through 340 commercial banks, 54 district cooperative banks, four card banks and 1,378 primary agriculture credit societies. The lead bank, Indian Oveseas Bank would review the progress.
