Minorities panel plea to religious leaders
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
MARCH 24.
The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has urged all religious leaders not to issue any political "diktat" during the Lok Sabha elections. The Commission, which met here on Tuesday, decided to ask all national and regional parties not to exploit religion for political ends.
According to the Commission, vote bank politics was detrimental to the interest of minorities. Also, the NCM was of the view that en bloc voting would only harm minorities as it created a rift between communities.
"Minorities should develop a political vision in the democratic set-up of the nation, and cast their vote keeping in view their larger interests,'' a statement issued by the NCM said.
