All-faith amity meet on Sunday

MANGALORE, MARCH 24. Three organisations will organise an all-faith amity meet here on Sunday. These organisations plan to set up a coordination committee to further the cause of communal amity.

The committee will meet once a month to chalk out plans aimed at promoting peace in society. Sunday's programme, in which 10,000 people are expected to participate, is an effort by the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Mangalore Diocese, the city unit of ICYM; the Muslim Central Committee, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi; and the Durgadevi Bhajana Mandali, Devi Nagar, Mangalore.

Santosh D' Souza, president of ICYM, told presspersons here on Wednesday that the meet would be held at Kalpane, Kulshekar. A procession would be taken out from Nanthoor to the venue of the meet.

The Bishop of Belthangady Diocese, Lawrence Mukkuzhy, would preside over the meet. Gurudevananda Swami of Gurudevadatta Samsthan would deliver benedictions. The director of the Sandesha Foundation, Denis D'Sa, Ejazuddin, scholar from Bangalore, and the director of the Mangalore Institute of Fashion Technology, M.J. Hegde would spoke, he said.

He said a Tulu drama, Bolli, would be staged on the occasion. He urged the people to participate in the function.

William D' Souza, director of ICYM, Yogeesh Kirodian, president of the mandali, and Mohammed Hanief, secretary of the Muslim committee, were present.
