NEW DELHI, MARCH 24. In a drive launched against betting rackets being run on the fifth match of the Indo-Pak one-day cricket series played at Lahore, the Crime Branch arrested seven people, including the nephew of a Congress MLA from Haryana, from different parts of the Capital today. Ajay Dewan, who had allegedly been running the satta racket from Anand Parbat in West Delhi, was arrested this evening. The police said he had accepted the biddings to the tune of Rs. 45 lakhs. Mobile phones, television set and other gadgets were recovered from his possession. During interrogation, he disclosed that his father, Tekchand, was a property dealer, while his uncle was an MLA in Haryana. It is learnt that Ajay's cousin, Rakesh, runs a satta racket from Sonepat and is also involved in smuggling of liquor. In another operation, the police arrested three men - Pawan Narula, Manoj and Manjeet Singh, -- for running a betting racket from a Karol Bagh shop. They had accepted the stake amount to the tune of Rs. 20 lakhs. During yet another raid, the Crime Branch arrested three more persons, identified as Sudarshan, Rajender and Bhupender. The police said raids went on till late tonight to identify and arrested others involved in the betting racket.
