dated March 26, 1954: New E. Bengal Ministry

Mr. A.K. Fazlul Huq, leader of the United Front, was summoned on March 25 night by the Governor of East Bengal and asked to submit the names of the members of his Cabinet as early as possible. The United Front Party, which has so far won 211 seats in a House of 309, will meet on April 2 in Dacca to elect the office-bearers of the party. The summoning of Mr. Fazlul Huq by the Governor and asking him to submit the names of the members of his Cabinet is interpreted as being due to the eagerness of the Governor to see a popular Ministry installed immediately in view of the unrest prevailing in the industrial areas of the province. The octogenarian politician was the Premier of Undivided Bengal for many years but found himself in the opposite camp in East Bengal on partition. A few months before the elections he formed the Krishak Sramik (Peasants and Labour) Party.
