BELLARY, MARCH 25. Members of the Bellary-based Nayak (Valmiki) Community Vidyabhirudhi Sangha and representatives of a few other backward communities, while welcoming the decision of the Congress to field the former Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, N.Y. Hanumanthappa, from the Chitradurga Lok Sabha constituency, have called upon the party workers to strive hard for the success of Mr. Hanumanthappa. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Girimallappa, president of the sangha, said Mr. Hanumanthappa, who hailed from the Nayak community, was popular among people as he had served in various capacities in the judiciary. Giving him the Congress nomination would help the Congress, he said and thanked the All India Congress Committee President, Sonia Gandhi, for the gesture. He said the community was happy that Mr. Hanumanthappa had been offered the party nomination, and expressed the hope that Mr. Hanumanthappa would strive hard for the welfare of the people. Mr. Girimallappa urged the Congress to give nomination to at least 20 to 25 persons from the community to fight the Assembly elections. Kamalamma, President of the district Congress women's wing, Sadashivappa of the Valmiki Sangharsha Samiti, and others were present.
