BJP likely to nominate Pujar

By Our Staff Correspondent

BIJAPUR, MARCH 25. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to field the former MLA for Bagalkot, P.H. Pujar, from the Bagalkot Lok Sabha constituency.

Sources told The Hindu that the party, which had been toying with the idea of fielding the former MLC, P.C. Gaddigoudar, from the seat had to change its choice to accommodate the senior leader, Veeranna Charantimath, who unsuccessfully contested the 1996 Lok Sabha elections from the Bagalkot segment.

Mr. Gaddigoudar, who was the president of the All India Progressive Janata Dal district unit before joining the BJP, was likely to be the party's candidate for the Badami Assembly segment, sources said.

The names of the former MLAs, Govind Karjol and Rajshekhar Sheelvant, and that of the former president of the party's district unit, Murgesh Nirani, had been cleared for the Mudhol, Guledgud, and Bilagi Assembly segments, respectively, they added.

A formal announcement in this regard would be made in a day or two, they said.
