VISAKHAPATNAM, MARCH 25. The monthly wage limit for employees to be covered under the Employees State Insurance Act has been increased from Rs.6,500 to Rs.7,500 with effect from April 1. According to a press release from the Employees State Insurance Corporation, all employees, whose wages did not exceed Rs.7,500, excluding remuneration for overtime, and those employed in factories and establishments to which the ESI Act applies, are coverable under the provisions of the Act. Four more standard benefit rates are added under Rule 54 of the ESI (Central) Rules, 1950. The maximum standard benefit rate per day was prescribed at Rs.145 against the existing Rs.125. Also, employees drawing wages up to and inclusive of Rs.50 a day need not pay their share of contribution. The limit was Rs.40 till now. However, employer's share will continue to be paid in such cases, the release added.
