Invited for global meet

TIRUPATI: Ramesh Babu Rayapu of BOSS & CIPCA, a voluntary organisation, has been invited to take part in `Microbicides 2004', a global meet to be held at London from March 28 by the Imperial College, London and Medical Research Council of UK. The third biennial conference provides a forum for reporting novel and innovative work in the field, to which Mr. Rayapu has been invited for a full scholarship award.

Workshop for rural journalists

TIRUPATI: The three-day training-cum-workshop on `Writing for media', conducted for rural journalists by the Communication and Journalism department of Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) concluded here on Thursday. Meera Shenoy, Communication Consultant, SERP, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Arun Kumar, SERP project director, Chittoor, T. V. Subba Rao, Director of SPMVV Distance Education, M.Ratnamma, Editor, Navodayam, U. V. S. R. Anjaneyulu, Doordarshan, Malleswara Rao of AIR and C.Vani, workshop coordinator spoke. Around 75 journalists and project managers from Krishna, Kurnool, Cuddapah, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Ranga Reddy and Khammam districts took part.

Recruitment of constables

NELLORE: The recruitment process for police constables has been rescheduled and accordingly the physical fitness test will now be held between May 24 and May 31 and the written test for civil constables on June 13. Candidates who qualify in the 5 km race have to attend the test at the police parade ground, Nellore, at 6 a.m. on June 24.

Hunger strike called off

Cuddapah: The Andhra Pradesh Mining Corporation Workers Union general secretary, D. R. Sreenivasa Rao, and the vice-president, K. Radhakrishna Reddy, called off their indefinite hunger strike on Thursday following fruitful discussions with the APMDC Managing Director, Harpreet Singh, on their demands at Hyderabad. The Cuddapah district Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, offered fruit juice to the fasting leaders. Mr. Singh assured to make compassionate appointments after elections, implement Mediclaim policy for Rs. 1 lakh to each worker, to regularise services of 130 daily wage workers, grant pay scales to workers not accorded promotions since a decade and to fill up vacant posts by June, besides lifting the ceiling on PF contributions.

State general body meeting

MADANAPALLE: C. V. Purnachandra Rao, president, Andhra Pradesh Technical (Commercial) Institutes Association (Regd. No. 44) said in a press note said that the 42nd State general body meeting will be held at Vikram Hall, Rajahmundry, on March 28 at 10 a.m. He said there is no delegate fee but all members who had paid their annual subscription fee for 2002 could participate in the general body meeting. Elections for the post of office-bearers will also be held.
