PONDICHERRY, MARCH 25 . The traffic wing of the Pondicherry police has intensified steps to curb violation of traffic rules, according to the Superintendent of Police K. S. Ramalingam. Talking to presspersons here today he said that there had been spurt in the number of accidents including fatal mishaps, violation of traffic rules and drunken driving. During last three months he said that as many as 4,643 cases were registered for various cases of violation of traffic rules. Mr.Ramalingam said that the number of vehicles had been increasing and with a view to preventing drunken driving by auto drivers and other vehicle operators the traffic wing would soon procure four special breath analyser equipment. Twenty-three fatal accidents occurred during the last three months from January in Pondicherry region alone. The ECR road between Pakkamodayanpet junction and the Pillaichavady block on Markanam route had been found to be prone to fatal accidents between 2 and 6 p.m everyday. Hence special attention was given to book cases against resorting to over speed and violation of other features of road rules.
