THIRUVANANTHAPURAM. MARCH 25. The SSLC and Higher Secondary examinations in the State concluded today. This year, a record number of 6,19,776 candidates appeared for the SSLC examinations, which began on March 10. There was an increase of 36,416 candidates over the last year. As the Government has decided to introduce the grading system from the next examination onwards, this will be the last SSLC examination where ranks will be awarded. The evaluation of the answer sheets will commence on April 2 at 49 centres and will end on April 24. The results are expected to be announced by May 15. The Government has also put in place stand-by arrangements, this year, to handle any shortages in teachers for evaluation. The DEOs have been asked to prepare a list of teachers who can be deployed, at short notice, if and when necessary. As many as 3,11,470 students appeared for the Higher Secondary examination held at 1,174 centres across the State. There was an increase of 37,788 candidates over last year. The centralised valuation will take place in 38 centres. All the districts have been provided centres for the first time this year. The tabulation will commence from April 5 and the results will be announced by May 16. In the Vocational Higher Secondary stream, 35,275 students appeared for the examination at 375 centres in the State. Of these, 27,524 were regular students. There were 16,847 boys and 18,428 girls. The results will be published by May 15.
