By V. S. Sambandan
COLOMBO, MARCH 25. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) today stepped up the verbal offensive against its former eastern military commander, V. Muralitharan (also known as `Col.' Karuna), and officially said that it had "decided to get rid of Karuna from our soil''. A statement by the LTTE's political division, said `Col.' Karuna was attempting to "create regional differences and fratricidal war'' to "cover up the offences committed by him." The "immoral conduct, fraudulent financial transactions and arbitrary assassinations'' of the former military commander for two eastern districts Batticaloa and Amparai "were proved with substantial evidence and he was called for an inquiry,'' the LTTE statement said, adding: "To safeguard our nation and our people, it has been decided to get rid of Karuna from our soil."
