BANGALORE, MARCH 25. There was tension at Someshwaranagar in the Siddapura Police limits on Wednesday after a procession taken out by a group of youth to celebrate India's victory in Lahore over Pakistan in the one-day cricket series, turned violent. At about 11 p.m., about 20 youth from Guttepalya took out the procession on 2nd Main Road, Someshwaranagar. They reportedly threw stones at a few houses and vehicles and damaged an autorickshaw. The youth smashed beer and soda bottles and stabbed a fruit seller on the shoulder with a bottle injuring him, the police said. Immediately, the victims of the attack who belonged to a particular community gathered on the road leading to tension. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Ramasubba, and other officials rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Patrolling in the area was intensified. Mr. Ramasubba told The Hindu that seven persons had been arrested on rioting and assault charges. The Siddapura Police have registered a case. Though there was tension in the area on Thursday, no untoward incident was reported.
