Fee panel sets new deadline

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, MARCH 25. The Government's A.B. Murgod Fee Committee for Private Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges has fixed a new deadline — April 5 — for the colleges to submit their proposed fee structures. The earlier deadline expired today.

A majority of the colleges had sought an extension of the deadline, contending that they had received the 40-page fee pro-forma sent by the panel only on March 17, seven days after it was dispatched.

The Karnataka Private Dental Colleges Association had wanted 15 days more to fill the comprehensive pro-forma.

In the pro-forma, the colleges were required to provide detailed information on their three years' audited balance sheets and projected income and expenditures for the next three years.

The panel had also wanted colleges to furnish data on all the courses, the infrastructure, grants, qualification of staffers and equipment purchase.

Some of the private managements felt that the documents asked by the panel would run into more than 300 pages.

Besides, providing information on all the courses would prove to be repetitive.

It is learnt that the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) will take a final decision on the dates for the undergraduate courses only after the fee panel and the Venkataraman panel overseeing professional college entrance tests give their verdicts.

Admissions to all postgraduate courses in COMED-K colleges were stalled after the panels objected to counselling without their approval.

The committees were likely to clear the admission process in a day or two, sources said.
