KPTCL resorts to load shedding

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, MARCH 25. Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (KPTCL) on Thursday resorted to unscheduled load shedding as power supply fell short by 300 megawatt, according to sources.

While there was no load shedding in Bangalore, the power corporation was restricting rural loads by 10 per cent. "Between midnight and 4 a.m., there will be unscheduled load shedding," the sources said and added "power will be supplied during morning peak hours as the SSLC examination is going on."

The sources said a 500-megawatt unit at Talcher was still not operational causing a shortfall of 125 megawatt. Two units at Neyveli Lignite Corporation were also not available, they said and added "we have lost 80 megawatt there." Though the State was supposed to get 500 megawatt from outside, "only 400 megawatt is available," the sources said.

Though power corporation officials said there was no load shedding in Bangalore, consumers complained of frequent power cuts. There was no power from 10 a.m. till late in the afternoon, a resident of RT Nagar said.
