Rank winners to get 94 gold medals

SHIMOGA, MARCH 26. H.C. Narendra of the UBDT Technical College of Davangere, who scored the first rank in the BE (Mechanical) examination held in September last year, has won seven gold medals of Kuvempu University this year.

C.K. Nagashruti of the same college has won six gold medals. She has secured the first rank in the BE (Computer Science) examination.

They will receive the gold medals and certificates along with other students at the 14th annual convocation of the university on the campus, Jnana Sahyadri, on Saturday from the Governor and Chancellor, T.N. Chaturvedi.

K.N. Parameshwar of Jnana Sahyadri Shankarghatta (first rank in Kannada MA) and Sharath Prakash of the UBDT Technical College of Davangere (first rank in BE Mechanical) in the boys' section and G.A. Shabeena of Jnana Sahyadri (first rank in Urdu MA) and G.M. Veena of the Jnana Sahyadri (first rank in MCA) in the girls' section have won three gold medals each.

While five boys and eight girls have won two gold medals each, 21 boys and 22 girls have won one gold medal each.

Those who have won both gold medals and cash awards are K.N. Parameshwar (first rank Kannada MA), K.T. Shaji (first rank in BFA) and Jayadeva (B.Sc) in boys' section and S.N. Soumya (first rank in MA Sanskrit), D.B. Deepti (MA Kannada), G.A. Shabeena Talluq (MA Urdu), S. Pallavi (BFA), G.N. Latakumari (M.Sc Mathematics) and M.S. Suma (B.Ed) in the girls' section.

Of the 103 gold medals instituted in the university to be awarded for first rank holders in various examinations, only 94 have been awarded this year as there were no eligible candidates for the remaining gold medals, according to the Registrar (Evaluation) of the university, Manjunath Naik.

Sri Vidyabhinava Vidyaranya Bharathi won the gold medal for the best Ph.D thesis in Sanskrit.

Of the 20,560 candidates, who appeared for the various examinations belonging to seven faculties 11,970, have passed accounting for 58.21 per cent.
