THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 26. The Government has accorded sanction to 406 drinking water projects in the district, estimated to cost Rs.5 crores. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Food and Civil Supplies Minister, G. Karthikeyan, here today. The projects include the extension of drinking water lines, deepening of wells, and setting up new pumps. The Attingal division of Kerala Water Authority would implement works to the tune of Rs.141 lakhs, Neyyatinkara division (Rs.121 lakhs), Nedumangad (Rs. 116 lakhs), and Thiruvananthapuram (Rs.107 lakhs). Priority has been given to projects that can be completed this summer itself. Four small-scale projects for Rs.14 lakhs would be implemented. An action plan for rainwater harvesting in the district would be prepared and implemented in all Government offices. A sum of Rs.15 lakhs would be given to provide power connection for the Thirumala drinking water scheme, which would be commissioned by April 30.
