Two arrested with heroin

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, MARCH 26. Two persons, including a supplier of raw material used in manufacturing heroin, have been arrested by the Narcotics and Crime Prevention Cell of the Delhi police in two separate raids. The police claim to have recovered 2 kg of heroin and 100 litres of acetic anhydride, a chemical used for making heroin, from the accused.

The police said Shammi Kapoor, a resident of Inderpuri in South-West Delhi, was arrested near Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in West Delhi on March 23. The police recovered 2 kg heroin from him. During interrogation, it came to light that Shammi, an alleged bad character of Inderpuri police station, had earlier been involved in six cases of Excise Act. He had entered the smuggling drugs for more money.

In another raid, the police arrested another person, Chakkrapani Dutt, near Ajmeri Gate in Central Delhi on Thursday. The police recovered five 20-litre drums of acetic anhydride from him. The recovered chemical was enough to manufacture over 200 kg of heroin.

Interrogation revealed that Chakkrapani, a science graduate, used to run a chemical shop by the name Labo Aids at Chippi Tank, Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. He was supplying chemical to various laboratories and schools. The lure of easy money brought him into the illegal business around one year ago.
