NEW DELHI, MARCH 27. Viswanathan Anand underscored his supremacy over Vladimir Kramnik in their crucial rapid game in the sixth round of the Amber blindfold and rapid chess tournament at Monte Carlo on Friday night. On a day when nine of the 12 matches ended decisively, Anand scored a 43-move victory in Sicilian Rossolimo. Anand now shares the lead with Evgeny Bareev, who defeated Alexie Shirov 2-0 and replaced Kramnik at the top.
Seventh round (blindfold): Veselin Topalov v Boris Gelfand; Evgeny Bareev drew with Vassily Ivanchuk; Peter Svidler v Alexei Shirov.
Sixth round (blindfold): Gelfand drew with Svidler; Ivanchuk bt Topalov; Shirov lost to Bareev. (Rapid): Francisco Vallejo lost to Peter Leko; Leok van Wely bt Alexander Morozevich; Viswanathan Anand bt Vladimir Kramnik; Svidler bt Gelfand; Topalov bt Ivanchuk; Bareev bt Shirov.
Combined standings (after six rounds): 1-2. Anand and Bareev (8 points); 3. Leko (7.5); 4-6. Svidler, Kramnik and Ivanchuk (7); 7-8. Topalov and Morozevich (6); 9. Wely (5.5); 10 Shirov (5); 11. Vallejo (3);12. Gelfand (2).
