TMC meet on poll strategy

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, MARCH 27. The former Local Administration Minister of Pondicherry and MLA (Tamil Maanila Congress), Theni C. Jayakumar, today said he would hold constituency-wise meeting with party workers from March 31 to ascertain their wishes on the strategy the party should adopt for the Lok Sabha election. A decision on whether the party should go it alone or support any `national party' would be taken only after consultation with the rank and file, he told newspersons here.

Asked whether he would contest, Mr. Jayakumar asked the newsmen to wait for a few days, as any decision on poll should be taken democratically.

NTC move opposed

Mr. Jayakumar protested against the current efforts of the National Textiles Corporation (NTC) to close the Swadeshi Cotton Mills here and its move to transfer all its workers and employees to another NTC-run Bharathi mills here.

He said the Panjalai Thozirsangam Congress affiliated to the TMC had moved the Madras High Court to restrain the corporation and the management from closing the mill or transferring its employees.
