NAGAPATTINAM, MARCH 27 . The Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation Managing Director, V.Gunalan inspected the Corporation's modern rice mill at Sitherkadu near Mayiladuthurai recently. During his visit he made enquiries about maintenance of the unit and the upkeep of storage facilities. Later he held discussions with senior officials of the Corporation and the Collector, M.Veera Shanmugha Moni, on the distribution of commodities to cooperative run fair-price shops in the district. Mr.Gunalan urged the officials to ensure maintenance of quality of goods supplied to the fair-price shops. He also inspected the open-air godown at Kadambadi here, where paddy procured from the farmers were stacked and covered with polythene sheets. Meanwhile, malpractices to the tune of Rs.21385 have been unearthed during surprise inspection conducted by special teams comprising representatives from Revenue and Cooperative department in about 12 fair price shops in the district. Subsequently the Collector ordered recovery of the said amount from the salaries of staff of the respective shops. R.Nedumaran, salesman of the Thittachery town panchayat cooperative fair price shop, has been suspended on the charges of indulging in malpractices, according to an official release.
