Temperature

TIRUCHI, MARCH 27 . The city today registered a maximum temperature of 36.8 degree Celsius and a minimum of 25.4 degree Celsius.

Farmer murdered

Selvaraj (37), a farmer of Anukanatham, was murdered by his brother on Friday.

There was a long pending property dispute between Selvaraj and Arokyasamy (45).

Selvaraj was said to have damaged the door of Arokyasamy's house. Enraged by this, Arokyasamy assaulted him with a deadly weapon. He died instantly. The Vaiyampatti police have launched a search for the accused.

Power cut withdrawn

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has withdrawn the power shutdown it had announced in the areas served by the Kambarasampettai sub-station for Sunday. These areas will get power supply as usual tomorrow.

AITUC meeting

The two-day general body meeting of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) began here today. The meeting discussed the strategy for the Lok Sabha elections, the issues relating to the labour force and the role to be played by the AITUC to protect the interests of workers.

Awareness programme

Students of the Railway Mixed Higher Secondary School, Golden Rock, along with the Railway Hospital, Golden Rock, and the Regional Transport Office, conducted an awareness programme on road safety on the school premises today.

The Principal, V. Shanmugham, stressed the need for inculcating road sense and safety in road- users, and called upon the students to adhere to the road rules. K. Boominathan of the Railway Hospital and the motor vehicle inspectors, S. Balasubramanian and K. M. Prabhakaran, spoke.

Lectures

The Ahle Sunnath Wal Jamaath organised a series of lecture programmes in the city, in connection with the month of Muharram, first month of the Islamic year.

Moulvi Syed Anwar Rabbani Khadiri of the Darul Uloom Rabbania Arabic College, Banda, Uttar Pradesh, delivered special lectures on the significance of the Karbala battle, and the sacrifices made by Hazrath Imam Hussain, grand son of Prophet Mohammad, for protecting democracy.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur dam stood at 24.63 feet today. The inflow was 47 cusecs, and the discharge 35 cusecs.
