Kollam
By Our Staff Reporter
KOLLAM, MARCH. 27. Gearing themselves up for the coming Lok Sabha elections, leaders of the United Democratic Front in the district today assembled together for a meeting to call for unity in working towards the victory of the UDF candidate from the Kollam constituency. While the formal announcement of the candidate is yet to come, it has widely been accepted by the UDF leadership in the district that the DCC president, Sooranad Rajashekaran, is the candidate. Inaugurating the meeting, the Transport Minister, R. Balakrishna Pillai, said that the UDF constituents should put in a dedicated effort to win back the constituency, which had been lost for the past three consecutive elections. He said that the India shining slogan was in reality the glare from the fire at the Best Bakery in Gujarat. Mr. Pillai said that the importance of the coming elections was that it provides an opportunity for the people to save the country from communal forces. Addressing the gathering the Health Minister, Kadavur Sivadasan, said that the present issues within the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee would soon prove to be nothing but the proverbial storm in the teacup. The Labour Minister, Babu Divakaran, presided. The former KPCC presidents, Thennala Balakrishna Pillai and C.V. Padmarajan, the CMP politburo member, M.H. Shariyar, the district president of the Indian Union Muslim League, A. Yunus Kunju, and the district president of the Kerala Congress(M), C. Baby Kutty, among others addressed.
