Pratibha Bharati files papers

SRIKAKULAM, MARCH 27. Seeking her sixth consecutive election from the Etcherla(SC) constituency, the Speaker of the dissolved House, K Pratibha Bharati, filed her nomination at Ranasthalam today. Her Congress rival, K Muralimohan, the TDP district president, G Appala Suryanarayana, for Srikakulam, the PCC general secretary, G Haribabu Naidu, for Patapatnam, and the Amadalavalasa Municipal Chairperson, B Satyavati, for Amadalavalasa, also filed nominations today.

Mr. Appala Suryanarayana, who staved off threats from dissidents before his name was announced by the party, came in a procession from Arasavalli and filed his papers at the Srikakulam RDO office. The Zilla Parishad Chairman, YV Suryanarayana and the Municipal Chairperson, P Jayanti, were present. Mr. Haribabu Naidu had filed his papers though his name has not been cleared by the party. Ms. Satyavati's name has found place in the first list of the Congress announced yesterday. Others who filed nominations were Narthu Narendra Yadav as Independent from Ichhapuram, KVB Anita Rani(TDP) from Harischandrapuram, Lingala Janardhana Rao(Independent) from Patapatnam.

Yanamala launches campaign

The Finance Minister, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, formally launched his election campaign at Thetagunta village in Tuni Assembly segment on Saturday. As was the practice, Mr. Ramakrishnudu, who is seeking election for the sixth time in a row, offered pooja at the Siva temple before launching the campaign. Earlier, Mr. Ramakrishnudu, who came with the B-Form, was extended a warm welcome by his supporters at Annavaram.

The Finance Minister along with supporters went through the streets and sought people's support for ensuring continued development. The Minister addressed a public meeting and spoke to presspersons. He recalled how he was selected by the founder-president of the party, N.T.Rama Rao, for the Tuni Assembly segment in 1983.

Mr. Ramakrishnudu expressed confidence that people would elect him once again. He expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, for reposing confidence in him.

Our Special Correspondent in Hyderabad adds: Details reaching the State election control room in the Secretariat showed that it was independents who filed most of the nominations. There were 11 nominations from the Telugu Desam and six from the Congress. Ministers - M. Venkateswara Rao (Dichpalli) and Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu (Narsipatnam) were among those who filed nomination today.

Eight nominations were received covering six parliamentary seats and 39 for 31 Assembly seats as per information available till 5 pm. The Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Ajay Sawhney, said there would not be nominations tomorrow, the day being a holiday.
