Vajpayee urged to drop move on CMFRI
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM,
MARCH 27.
The Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, has urged the Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee, to give up the move to shift the Research Centre of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) at Vizhinjam to Tamil Nadu.
In a letter to Mr. Vajpayee, Mr. Antony said the CMFRI had been functioning at Vizhinjam for years. Vizhinjam had a lot of unique geographical features and rich marine bio-diversity. The centre had been doing research on different types of fish and other marine bio-diversity. Most of these fishes and other endangered species were seen only in Vizhinjam. Shifting the centre would upset the research activities that had been going on at the centre, he said.
