BAGALKOT, MARCH 27. A large number of supporters of P.H. Pujar, former BJP MLA, staged a protest in front of the house of the President of district unit of the party, Narayansa Bandage, against the move not to renominate their leader for the coming Assembly elections. The supporters led by the Bagalkot rural unit President, Chandrakant Kesnur, entered the compound of Mr. Bandage's house and destroyed flowerpots other articles. Mr. Kesnur and a few party workers began a hunger strike and declared that they would not relent till the party renominated Mr. Pujar. Reports that the party had decided to nominate Veeranna Charanthimath, president of the Basaveshwar Vidyavardhak Sangha, for the Bagalkot Assembly segment and Mr. Pujar for the Lok Sabha constituency enraged them. Mr. Bandage told The Hindu that the matter would be settled amicably soon. Meanwhile, sources said the party was likely to review the earlier decision of fielding the former MLC, P.C. Gaddigoudar, for the Lok Sabha seat. The "original'' plan was to renominate Mr. Pujar for the Bagalkot Assembly segment and the former MLA, M.K. Pattanashetti for the Badami seat.
