BANGALORE, MARCH 27. Teachers of primary and secondary schools have threatened to boycott election duty if the State Government does not release their salary for the past three months soon. Puttanna, who represents the Bangalore teachers' constituency in the Legislative Council, said the Government had not released Rs. 300 crore for teachers' salaries in the past three months. Teachers across the State would boycott the evaluation of answer papers and election work if the Government did not release salary and other allowances before March 29, he said. The office-bearers of the Karnataka State High School Headmasters' and Composite Pre-University College Principals' Association and the Karnataka State Assistant Masters' Association had met the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, B.K. Chandrashekar, and Education Department officials. But there was no response from them, Mr. Puttanna said. The office-bearers of the associations and elected representatives of teachers would meet on March 30 here to chalk out the future course of action, he said. M.N. Chandre Gowda, Secretary, Karnataka State High School Headmasters' and Composite Pre-University College Principals' Association, opposed the trimester system proposed by the Government from classes five to eight from the next academic year. The Government had revised the school syllabus but it was yet to place orders to print textbooks. Teachers and students may not get the new textbooks at the beginning of the academic year if the printing was delayed, he said.
