Prostitution racket busted, nine arrested

NEW DELHI, MARCH 27 . Nine persons, including five women, have been arrested by the New Delhi police for allegedly running a prostitution racket.

Following a tip-off, the Connaught Place police had sent a decoy to strike a deal with the suspects in the parking area of Marina Hotel at Connaught Place on Friday evening. The deal was struck at Rs. 3,000 each for three prostitutes with one of the suspects, and Rs. 5,000 per woman from the second suspect. The waiting police team then rounded up the suspects.

In all the police arrested four pimps and five women.

The pimps have been identified as Yashpal, Bunty, Hemant and Pradeep. The five women have been identified as Enobut (32), an Uzbek national, Priti (22), Sara (20), Nisha (23) and Neha (19) -- all from various parts of Delhi.

The police seized a Toyota Qualis and Hyundai Santro which were used to ferry the girls. They also recovered 12 mobile phones.

Interrogation of the accused revealed that the pimps, Yashpal and Hemant, along with their associates Pradeep and Bunty, used to strike the deal with customers directly. Mostly they chose parking areas of hotels. The women were called on contract and their commission ranged between 10 to 30 per cent of the total amount. The women disclosed that they used to operate on mobile phones and never disclosed their identities to their clients. The pimps used to fix the deal as well as the place of meeting. The pimps and the women used to collect at a pre-fixed place from where they were taken to their respective destinations.

All the accused have been booked under the Immoral Trafficking Act and further investigations are on to ascertain their antecedents.
