Correction
With reference to the report ``Chennai Water supply - Karunanidhi dumped Veeranam scheme purposely'', published in these columns on March 24, the Commercial Taxes Minister and AIADMK Coimbatore district secretary, S.M. Velusamy, writes: ``To say that the work after the sanction of the project had progressed for 18 months from 1995 is totally erroneous and completely distorts the factual position... Our beloved leader stated that she took all necessary steps to execute the project in right earnest and had planned to complete the project at great speed within a period of 18 months. However, within a few months, the 1996 State Assembly elections intervened. There was a change of Government and the DMK came to power and Karunanidhi became Chief Minister. Immediately thereafter, simply because the New Veeranam scheme was conceived by our beloved leader, Thiru Karunanidhi dumped the entire project..."
