CHITRADURGA, MARCH 28. The "hillock scam" in the Chitradurga City Municipal Council has taken a new turn. A.H. Raghavendra, the prime accused in the scam, not only cheated the City Municipal Council (CMC) alone but also the Primary Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank, it is alleged. He had raised a loan of Rs. 10,000 by showing the land in question as collateral security. The CMC had purchased the land from Mr. Raghavendra by paying Rs.11 lakh. But it later discovered that the property belonged to the Forest Department. A letter from the bank has brought to light one more side of the scam. The bank had written to the Deputy Commissioner to repay Rs. 23,200 (loan with interest) on February 24. In the letter, it said: "Mr. Raghavendra had taken a loan of Rs. 10,000 showing the now disputed land as guarantee. Now it came to the bank's notice that the land has been purchased by the City Municipal Council. Kindly instruct the Municipal Commissioner to clear our dues."
