Former excise SI sentenced to two years' RI

HYDERABAD,
MARCH 28.
A former sub-inspector of the Excise Department, P. Anjaiah, was sentenced to undergo two years' rigorous imprisonment and pay Rs. 5,000 as fine, as he was found guilty of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The Additional Special Judge for ACB Cases, Hyderabad, also ordered confiscation of the assets worth over Rs 9 lakhs belonging to Anjaiah after expiry of appeal period, according to a press release.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau officials registered a case against Anjaiah in 1992 on charges of possessing disproportionate assets worth Rs. 14 lakhs while working at Balanagar in Ranga Reddy district. Currently, he is working as a member of the Zaheerabad mobile patrol party.
